Short story writer, translator, and journalist.

He was born in 1980 in the town of Şemrex (Mazıdağı), Mêrdîn (Mardin) Province. He attended primary school in Mazıdağı and secondary and high school in Diyarbakır. After graduating from the Faculty of Education at Dicle University, he studied in the Department of the International Relations at the School of Economics of Anadolu University. While a student at university, he edited and issued a Kurdish fanzine called Kulîlk together with his schoolmate Deştî Rewşen. Jîr took part in editing the newspaper Azadiya Welat and Kurdish magazines of art and literature Kulîlka Ciwan, W, and Rewşen. He also edited Şemamok and Dergûş, children’s periodicals in Kurdish. He contributed editing for some important literary works of Kurdish literature. In 2012, his short story collection Dozdeh Çirk (Twelve Seconds) was chosen as the subject of a dissertation in the Department of Kurdish Language and Literature at the University of Sulaimani. Some of his short stories have been translated into Turkish and published in various periodicals. Jîr lectured about short story writing, translation, and the history of world literature in the Department of Kurdish Language and Literature of the Cegerxwîn Academy for a long time. Sîdar Jîr lives in Diyarbakır.
