Mahmûd Barik

He was born in 1961 in Mêrdîn (Mardin). He attended primary school in the village of Golî in Mardin and completed high school in downtown Mardin. When the coup d’état of 12 September 1980 broke out, he was a civil servant in Mardin. After the military coup, he was taken into custody on the 18th of October and sent to Diyarbakır Prison on the 18th of December. He served eleven years in prison until he was released from Aydın Prison in 1991. Barik, who lives in Mardin, continues his research in the field of the Kurdish culture.
